Financial Freedom Friday FLASHBACK – Assets Over Liabilities: My start in Strategic Real Estate Investing

Over the past several months, I’ve been receiving inquiries about diving into the realm of strategic real estate investing.

During a recent client meeting, I stumbled upon a video from April 2021, where I reminisced about my foray into Strategic Real Estate Investing 6 years prior. In the video, I discussed a pivotal decision (deciding to relinquish and sell my “toys”, a BMW M3 coupe & a modified Yamaha R1 motorcycle to finance the acquisition of a strategic real estate asset, I acknowledged to myself that I could replace them with better “toys” in the future, should I make that sacrifice now). This one move set up the course for my life of where I am today. At that time, I confidently projected that by April 2022, I would achieve financial freedom, enabling me to break free from corporate constraints & pursue my passions with independence – https://lnkd.in/euKu99fh

It is now 3 years from the time of recording this video and 9 years from when I first started strategic real estate investing so I could set up financial freedom to provide me the ability to walk away from my corporate career forever & as of January 2024, I made the choice to do exactly that because after 9 years I had put all of the pieces in place.

Looking ahead, I realize I missed my mark by only 2 years on the short end in achieving the financial freedom & independence I once envisioned, however on the high end of my time frame I targeted 3 years out from the time of video which means I hit my objective.

Yet, hindsight now reveals a missed opportunity of grand proportions. Had I retained ownership of that property, its value would have burgeoned over the years. Today, in its unrenovated state, it commands a valuation ranging between $175k to $225k – a staggering 7 to 9-fold return on my initial investment over nine years. Moreover, had I opted for rental income, I would have recouped an additional $145k to $165k in rent for an additional $320k to $390k total income over the last 9 years!

The lesson learned is invaluable. Today, I approach investment decisions with a broader perspective, meticulously scrutinizing projections & evaluating potential outcomes. The crystal ball may remain elusive, but diligent analysis and ongoing assessment serve as reliable guides.

My journey serves as a testament that if I can accomplish this, anyone can.
